TextDrive Hosting Problems

by Peter Jones / February 7, 2007

Unfortunately, we're having some serious problems with TextDrive, our hosting provider. The server we are hosted on has become very unstable, forcing the TextDrive support staff to replace its hardware twice in the last two weeks.

Hopefully things will stabilize very soon. I can't imagine that this is normal for TextDrive, they get such good press otherwise. Has anyone else had problems with TextDrive?

Do you have a stable hosting provider that you're running a Ruby on Rails app with? Please let us know, post a comment.

I'm running two VPSes with Rimuhosting.com, both in their Dallas center. They have an option to get a Rails stack preconfigured on a new VPS, and they publish a script for doing it on your own.

Hardware on the first VPS has only ever gone down once. Tech support is stellar. Best I've ever had.

(referrals get me perqs. my domain there is thelesemanagement.com)

Thanks Matthew. If I go with Rimuhosting I'll be sure to use you as the referral.

I've been very happy with my VPS from slicehost.com.

$20 for a 256MB/10GB/100GB site. Not bad at all.

Since TextDrive start offering their new accelerator hosting packages they start to forget about small customers, a pitty.

I heard Planet Argon offers a few good packages too (also WebFaction with their simple setup control panel).

We've had problems in the past... and up until just about 48 hours ago. But then we rolled our own CMS and we've been fine. I've recently found the support from TextDrive much better, also.
